National Housing Day

Car Rally

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is this rally legal?  Yes, we will be following all rules of the road - stopping at traffic lights, intersections, obeying the speed limit etc. While it may add to traffic congestion and therefore slow down traffic a little, it won't break any laws. Other cars may come in-between us, and that's okay - it just makes it look like more people are supporting our cause!! If you get separated from the group, see if you can catch up by jumping ahead on the map, or just continue on your own to the finish. We'll be going around Queen's Park a few times at the end.

2) How can I get involved?  Send an email to tdrc@tdrc.net and let us know that you want to take part. You can drive your car, or catch a ride with someone else. We will also be providing buses to assist homeless people to take part.

3) Are you looking for donations?  It is free to take part in the rally, but we are looking for donations to cover the costs of National Housing Day. Financial donations assist us with providing bag lunches and meals to people riding the buses, paying for the buses, decorations and other costs. You are also welcome to contribute in-kind donations of photocopying, donations of materials etc.

4) Can I decorate my own car? Yes, absolutely. We will have a few prizes for the best decorated car. You may decorate in whatever way you would like. Make sure that you don't block any mirrors or windows with the decorations. Your license plate cannot be obstructed. However, you can put signs (use sheets or cardboard or bristol board) on your trunk, car doors or even on the roof. Think of the different angles that people will be viewing your car from and decorate accordingly. Ribbons and streamers can be tied to antennas. (Please note: because of allergies and concerns about small animals we discourage the use of latex balloons). We're having a decorating contest!! Prizes are available for the best decorated vehicle!

5) How can I catch a bus? Buses will be meeting at Parkdale Activity Recreation Centre (1499 Queen West) and All Saints Church (Dundas and Sherbourne) at 9:30am, leaving by 10am. After the rally, they'll drop folks back off at those locations. A small bagged lunch will be provided on the bus.

6) How many cars are coming? As of November 14th we have 25 vehicles (cars, buses, trucks and a motorcycle). The number is growing every day!

7) How do I get there?

By TTC

Take the King or Queen streetcars over to where they meet with Roncesvalles. Walk over the walkway bridge and you are just about there!
